プログレッシブ、ニューエイジ、アフロ、ニューウェーヴ、アンビエント…ジャンル分け不能なスパニッシュエレクトロニクス代表、第三世界音楽隊、Finis Africaeによる1984年-2001年の17年間分のリリースをコンパイルしたベストLP。

Finis Africaeの音楽は、80年代、スペイン体制ファシズム崩壊後、ようやく音楽、芸術活動の自由を得たトラッドなアーティストたちの汎アフリカ音楽を媒体としたエレガントな反動です。エレクトロニクスを繊細に駆使したヨーロッピアンフォークロアと、体制崩壊で流れ込んできた汎アフリカ音楽の精神世界を両肩に宿す、たとえばいるかどうかわかりませんが、バレンシアガのドレスで精霊を呼びよせているような淑女などにはぴったりの音楽です。ファシズム崩壊後の文化変革で流入したポストパンク、ニューウェーブ、アフロなどが渾然一体となった精神性から生まれた数多のスパニッシュエレクトロニクス、その中でもFinis Africaeを特別に感じるのは、メンバーが入れ替わりながら楽隊をアップデートさせているプロダクションの多彩さと、それにも関わらず揺らぐことのない根底に流れる純血主義によるところが大きいかもしれません。本作の収録曲は、制作時代の背景によって曲調はバラバラ、17年分の趣向を過積載していますが、一環している柔らかなオーガニック感覚はプロジェクト名のとおり「未知なるアフリカ」に由来していて全くブレていません。

Progressive, New Age, Afro, New Wave, Ambient… This is the best LP compilation of 17 years’ worth of releases from 1984-2001 by Finis Africae, the Third World Musicians, a representative of Spanish electronics that cannot be divided into genres.

Finis Africae’s music is an elegant rebound through the medium of pan-African music from a group of traditional artists who, after the fall of Spanish regime fascism in the 1980s, finally found freedom in their musical and artistic activities. It is the perfect music for the European folklore with its subtle use of electronics and the spiritual world of the pan-African music that flowed in after the collapse of the regime, such as the ladies who may or may not be present, but who are calling the spirits in their Balenciaga dresses. What makes Finis Africae special among the many Spanish electronics born of the post-punk, new wave, Afro, and other syncretic spiritualities that flowed in during the cultural transformation after the fall of fascism, is the fact that the band’s members are changing and updating their ensemble Perhaps this is largely due to the diversity of the production and the unwavering underlying purism that runs through it. The songs on this album are uneven in tone and overloaded with 17 years’ worth of flavor, depending on the context in which they were created, but the soft, organic feel that is part of them comes from the project’s name, “Unknown Africa,” and it doesn’t waver at all.
