コーヒー・ルンバといえば、同世代の日本人なら荻野目洋子か井上陽水あたり、もう少し深いところでロジック・システムがリフレインするかと思われますが、もともとこの曲、ラテンアメリカの民族音楽、いわゆるフォルクローレ発祥で、60年代に民族弦楽器アルパ奏者Hugo Blancoの演奏によって世界的に広まったそうです。80年代に入りスペインのちょいワル国民的シンガーJulio Iglesiasによるカヴァーがリリースされると、ここ日本でもリヴァイバル・ムーヴメントが起こり、インスト、日本語、ライブと、ピンからキリまで色々なヴァージョンが生まれます。

本作はそのカヴァー競作ブームの中で、メインストリームに認知されなかった知られざるコーヒー・ルンバのひとつで、シンガーソングライター小林泉美による82年のLP作品「夏・NUTS・夏」にひっそりと収録されています。

もともとアニメソングのコンポーザーとして活動していた小林泉美でしたが、80年代、スタジオ・ミュージシャンらで構成されていたジャパニーズ・フュージョン・シーンに接近し、高中正義バンドやT-SQUAREなどとともに本格的な音楽キャリアを積み、さらに90年代に入るとエレクトリックミュージックへ舵を切り、なんとAphex TwinのRichard D James率いる個性派牙城Rephlex Recordsからリリースオファーを受けるに至っています（結局色々あってリリースはできなかったようですが）。そんな小林泉美のキャリア中期にあたる82年のLP作品「夏・NUTS・夏」には、清水靖晃、笹路正徳、土方隆行の「マライア・プロジェクト / MARIAH」の渡辺モリオや高橋ゲタ夫、布袋寅泰ら国内最高峰の技巧派が集結。アフリカンからハワイアン〜カリプソといったゴキゲンなワールドテイストにニューウェーヴ的退廃感がどろりと混濁する折衷ポストパンク楽曲の中、むき出しでスカスカなドラムシーケンスをキュートなアニメヴォイスで縫い上げたコーヒー・ルンバ史上最も実験的な本作は、その後テクノへと傾倒してゆく小林泉美の未来の一端を垣間見せるかのような佇まいで収録されています。

Originally, Izumi Kobayashi was a composer of anime songs, but in the 80’s, she approached the Japanese fusion scene, which consisted of studio musicians, and developed a real musical career with Masayoshi Takanaka Band and T-SQUARE, and in the 90’s, she She made the switch to electric music, and was offered to release her first album on Rephlex Records, a label led by Aphex Twin’s Richard D James (although it seems she was never able to do so in the end). Natsu-Nuts-Summer” (1982), an LP released in the middle of Izumi Kobayashi’s career, brings together some of Japan’s finest technicians, including Morio Watanabe of Yasuaki Shimizu, Masanori Sasaji and Takayuki Hijikata’s “Mariah Project / MARIAH”, Getao Takahashi and Tomoyasu Hotei. The most experimental coffee rumba in the history of coffee rumba, which is a mixture of African, Hawaiian and calypso music with a sense of new wave decadence and post-punk music, is the most experimental album in the history of coffee rumba, which is stitched together with a cute anime voice in the midst of the eclectic post-punk music with a gobbled up world taste from African, Hawaiian and calypso and a sense of new wave decadence.
