説明不要の井上陽水による73年リリース、通算3枚目のアルバム作品にしてミリオンセラーLP「氷の世界」収録の表題曲。スリリングに加速する狂気のバックバンドに、諸氏のヴォーカルとブルースハープが刹那的に横溢するフォーキーファンク。

レコーディングは当時では異例のロンドンで行われ、ストーンズのストリングス・アレンジャーNick Harrisonを筆頭に、Deep PurpleのIan Gillan Bandメンバーやら、それはもうすごい外人が多数参加していて、あらためて氏のカリスマを再確認できます。言われてみれば70年代、8チャンネルRECの時代にこのびっしり箱詰めされた超絶アレンジは確かにプロ中のプロ仕事。

ただ、この曲で心が奪われたのは、そういったガワの部分ではなく、時は70年代フォーク隆盛の日本歌謡界にして、この狂気のバックトラックにして、滲み出る圧倒的ネガティブ、もはや救いようのないほどの自己嫌悪をさらけ出しているストーリンテリングです。それがなんだか衝動だけで音楽をやってる様をありありと感じさせて、聴けば聴くほどに深まりやればやるほどハマってしまう、まさしく氷の世界。40年前に重度のパラノイアに陥りながらもこの曲を書き上げ、リリース後にうっかりお上にパクられたりしながら、今でも自身の代表曲として歌い続けている姿にはなんとも惚れ惚れします。
