95年、沖縄民謡のカヴァー「花」で一躍時の人となり、紅白歌合戦にも出場した経歴を持つ沖縄出身のシンガー石嶺聡子によるバレアリック名義Okinawa Delays feat. Satoko Ishimine。この「花」を国内在住のバレアリックイギリス人我らがMax Essaがリミックスしたことに端を発するコネクションから、UK現行バレアリック本舗Claremont 56監修のもと2017年にリリースされたのが本作品。

Aサイドは、宮古島の伝承歌「なりやまあやぐ」を、90年代よりJose Padilaと共にイビザのチルアウトサイドCafe del Mar全盛期を支えてきたリアルバレアリックレジェンドPhil Misonがリアレンジ/リミックス。澄み渡る弦の旋律や鍵盤の深い余韻の中、石峰の白無垢な歌声に心を奪われる静謐なニューエイジ/アンビエント 「Nariyama Ayagu」を収録。
フリップサイドにはレーベル主宰Paul Murphyたってのリクエストということで、77年のジャパニーズシティポップの大名曲、笠井紀美子「Vibration」をふんわりぬくもりのあるカヴァーヴァージョンにてカップリング収録しています。国産バレアリック、ディスコを欧州目線でリノベート、月並みな表現ではありますが音楽が国境を超えた気持ちの良い作品です。

In 1995, Satoko Ishimine became a sensation with her cover of an Okinawan folk song, “Hana”, which was performed at the Kohaku Uta Gassen. From a connection stemming from Essa’s remix, this one was released in 2017 under the supervision of UK current Balearic bookstore Claremont 56.

The A-side is a real Balearic legend Phil Mison, who has been supporting Ibiza’s chill-out side Cafe del Mar’s heyday with Jose Padila since the 90s, rearranging/remixing the Miyako Island folklore song “Nariyamayayagu”. The tranquil new age/ambient “Nariyama Ayagu” is a mesmerizing song with Ishimine’s innocent white voice amidst clear string melodies and deep reverberations of the keys.

On the flip side, at the request of label president Paul Murphy, a cover version of Kimiko Kasai’s 1977 Japanese city pop classic “Vibration” is included on the flip side. It’s a rendition of domestic Balearic and disco music from a European perspective, and although it’s a bit of a cliché, the music transcends national borders in this pleasant album.
